Have your say
The HSL programme is undergoing an evaluation and, during the Autumn Term, we would be interested in hearing from small focus groups of school staff, parents and pupils about their experiences with health and Healthy Schools. The groups would last 30-45 minutes and the research team can accommodate your schedule and any time of day. If your school would like to get its voice heard and is interested in taking part, please contact Andrew.Barnfield@lshtm.ac.uk or tel: 0207 927 2928.
HSL Silver School Head awarded OBE
The Headteacher of Thomas Jones Primary School in Kensingston and Chelsea, David Sellens was included in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2015. He has been appointed OBE for services to Education (London). Thomas Jones Primary School have achieved both their HSL Bronze and Silver Awards. At their last inspection in they were deemed 'outstanding' in all aspects. Part of their ethos includes a desire to continually improve. The school promotes aspiration and a climate that ensures pupils are consistently kind and friendly. The success of the school is closely linked to their uncompromising stance regarding everything that pertains to healthy living, be it the quality of the school lunches afforded to pupils, personal hygiene, hydration and sleep. The school has long championed the notion that outstanding outcomes arise from, in part, being healthy. The mantra 'healthy bodies, healthy minds' is a key part of their success.
Get pupils moving with Change4Life and Disney
10 Minute Shake Up is back and this time C4L want to encourage kids to work as a team. Activities are once again inspired by Disney stories and characters. There are four fun Disney teams to shake up for, Big Hero 6, Frozen, Monsters and Toy Story, to help capture the kids' imagination. This year's packs for schools have loads of ideas to support teachers in delivering Key stage 1 and 2 physical education curricula by encouraging pupils to have fun running, jumping, throwing, catching and dancing. Packs are being delivered to Headteachers now, with the School Fruit and Veg scheme. The 'team up to shake up' game is a fun and easy way to get pupils moving throughout the day. Each kit contains a wall chart with spinner, activity cards, stickers and a teacher resource guide. To inspire the kids to get moving, a special 10 Minute Shake Up video routine starring a mystery TV personality will be available from 2nd July.
