Hambrough Primary School: Visit from Deputy Mayor

On Wednesday 26 November 2013, Victoria Borwick, Deputy Mayor of London visited Hambrough Primary School. Hambrough is a large primary school in the heart of Southall in Ealing. It is a two-form entry school with around 470 pupils on roll including 100 nursery pupils.

The Deputy Mayor visited to school in order to see first hand some of the activities that the school had undertaken to build self confidence and address bullying. The main aims of the school's work were that:

  1. Pupils are happy to come to school
  2. Pupils are less likely to give in to peer pressure
  3. Pupils and their families enjoy participating in school life

The Deputy Mayor got involved in three activities:

  1. Meet the school council – to see how they are doing reviewing the Anti-Bullying Charter
  2. Meet the mini-mentors – to ask how they were trained and what their role & responsibilities include
  3. Visit the new garden – to meet pupils and parents who are participating in making their school a welcoming place, and getting physically active

Activities the school introduced included

  • Nurture clubs
  • Pyramid Club – training staff to make this sustainable
  • Regular circle time sessions
  • Celebration assemblies
